Insight Coaching: Defining Results

Learn a new way of thinking—and living

Clients come to me because they think they’re missing something in their lives. It may be direction and purpose, connection and relationship, greater creation and achievement, wellbeing and happiness—all my clients want more of these!

I teach and coach from an understanding that we all come into this world with everything we need for an engaged, successful, and happy life.

Though we haven’t met, I already know this about you: Whatever you think you’re missing, you already have it. You just can’t see it; your current thinking is getting in the way.

When you think you’re missing something, that becomes your reality. You look ‘out there’ for the experience and feeling you want ‘in here’. You begin to believe your thoughts, and down the rabbit hole you go.

I teach you a different way of thinking about your life, how your experience of life really works, and how to find that way of thinking for yourself.

I show you how to take a different direction.

When you return to your regular life, I promise that your life will look and feel different, with new possibilities and paths to explore—a new way of thinking about Life.

Insight coaching is a conversation which leads to radical transformation in your experience of your life and world. Some people describe these shifts as getting fresh eyes. My colleagues and I call these shifts insights*

In.sight /ˈinˌsīt/ noun:

A clear, deep, and sometimes sudden understanding of a complicated problem or situations. The result of apprehending the inner nature of things or of seeing intuitively

One insight is worth a dozen good ideas

We work for our ideas, but our insights work for us. In other words, an insight is the personal realization of a new understanding of how you see life. It’s fundamental, transformative.

Ideas lead most often to incremental change. Insights yield exponential change. When Galileo realized that the world was round, it changed the course of science. Speaking from personal experience, on the first day in this work, I had an insight that instantly transformed my work, marriage, my entire relationship to life.

Insights are Personal

Insights arrive personalized for you. Your insight may not mean much to me, but for you it makes complete and total sense to you.

By design, humans are insight machines

For humans, insights are as ordinary as breathing. You and everyone else are born with the innate capacity for insight, which without realizing it we use throughout our lives.  You also possess within you all the innate resources for a happy, successful life—wisdom, creativity, purpose, connection, and resilience. Seeing this for yourself is a game-changer.

Insights have super powers

An insight can lift the heaviest weight from your shoulders, solve the most intractable problems, both at work or home.

What does an insight look like?

Insights always reveal them in simple, straightforward images and language. While an insight is clear and simple in content, its implications are mulit-faceted and far-reaching. Einstein’s theory of relativity was a simple equation. Its implications are still revealing themselves to this day.

Where do insights come from?

Honestly? I don’t know. I do know, however, that they don’t come from past experience, the intellect, or current life circumstances.  But you don’t have to know anything about the origin of insights to have your own!

How long till I have my own insights?

It is not possible to plan your insights, but you can put yourself in the best position to receive them. Our conversation will lead you inexorably to your Insights

Insight stories:

  • A client who was starting a new business came to me complaining of an ‘inner voice’ which continuously judged and criticized her, and was interfering with her ability to grow her business. After a few sessions, the voice disappeared. It hasn’t bothered her since. Needless to say, she found a new ease and freedom to grow her business.

  • The day that I learned that I had throat cancer, I experienced an insight that freed me from my fear of death: I saw that my connection to my wife and everything I love cannot be harmed by death or illness. The container for that moment of insight does not really give most people more than a hint of what I experienced. Insights are deeply personal. Three years later, I am still free of that fear.

  • A series of insights into the nature of creativity freed one client from years of writer’s block. He now sits down to write from a place of anticipation and freedom, quadrupling his output.

  • A single insight into the nature of memory cured me of a lifetime of post-traumatic-stress-disorder and anxiety. I realized that my wellbeing and capacity for love were still as pure and unsullied as the day I was born. This changed my work, my relationships, and enjoyment of life. This is what inspired me to teach others about finding insights of their own.

What can be learned from insight? (a growing list)

Insight can be turned towards anything you want to change in life—work, relationships, mental health (anxiety, depression, or low moods, for example.)

Not having the answer, not knowing what to do, is an opportunity, not a problem. Being okay with not knowing what to do next puts you in the seat of genius and innovation.

Insights provide all the inspiration, guidance and wisdom you will ever need, in any area of your life.

Insights lead to effortless flow, wellbeing, ease, connection, and love.

*There are two kinds of insights. One exists in the measurable, physical world—Newton, Einstein—the eureka! kind of insights. The other type is inner-directed. While both arise from the same source within us, my discussion of results refers only to inner-directed insights.
